Why Lab Confirmations are Important?
Laboratory confirmation testing is a critical step in ensuring accuracy, fairness, and legal validity in drug and alcohol results. While instant screening devices can provide fast, preliminary results, they are designed only to identify potential non-negative samples. For legal or disciplinary purposes, a result can only be formally reported as a positive detection once it has been confirmed by a NATA-accredited laboratory using advanced analytical methods such as GC/MS (Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry).
This process eliminates false positives, verifies the exact substance and concentration detected, and ensures that every result meets Australian Standards and chain-of-custody requirements. In short, lab confirmation protects both the employer and the individual by guaranteeing that every reported result is accurate, defensible, and compliant with legal and workplace testing guidelines.

At North Queensland Drug Detection (NQDD), we work in partnership with leading Australian pathology laboratories that are fully NATA-accredited and compliant with Australian Standards. These laboratories are recognised for their precision, integrity, and use of advanced technology to ensure every result is accurate, defensible, and legally valid. All non-negative samples are transported under full chain-of-custody conditions to these facilities, where they undergo confirmation testing using gold-standard analytical methods such as Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS).
