Why Test for
Alcohol?

Alcohol consumption can have a significant impact on workplace safety, performance, and decision-making. Testing helps employers maintain a safe and compliant work environment by identifying employees who may be under the influence while on duty. It also protects both staff and the business from potential accidents, injuries, and legal liability. Implementing a clear and consistent alcohol testing program demonstrates a proactive commitment to safety and compliance with Australian workplace health and safety legislation.

How Alcohol Testing Works?

Alcohol testing is generally conducted using breathalysers identical to those used by law enforcement agencies, ensuring accurate and reliable readings. At North Queensland Drug Detection (NQDD), our certified collectors use calibrated, Australian Standard–approved devices to measure blood alcohol concentration (BAC). Acceptable alcohol limits are determined by each organisation’s drug and alcohol policy, which should clearly define limits and procedures for workplace testing. All testing must comply with Australian drink-driving laws and any relevant industry safety standards.

While breath testing provides an instant measure of current alcohol levels, hair follicle testing can also be used to detect long-term patterns of alcohol or drug use. This extended detection window offers valuable insight for ongoing monitoring, compliance programs, and legal or rehabilitation requirements, making it an effective complement to standard breath testing.

How We Can Help

At North Queensland Drug Detection (NQDD), we offer flexible alcohol testing options to suit your needs. Breathalyser testing is included as part of our standard drug and alcohol testing service, but we also provide breath testing on its own for workplaces or individuals who only require alcohol screening.

For long-term detection, we offer hair follicle testing for alcohol, which can identify patterns of use over several months. Whether you need instant results or extended analysis, our experienced team ensures testing is accurate, confidential, and fully compliant with Australian standards.
